Acting Antics offers unique opportunities for children, teens, and adults who have difficulty with social skills or a diagnosis on the autism spectrum. We believe in using the creative arts to encourage social skills and communication growth.
The best way to learn is by having fun! At Acting Antics we capitalize on the strengths and abilities of our participants to observe and copy gestures, tones of voice, and mannerisms. The built-in structures that theatre and music provide can help the development of social understanding and flexible thinking through the opportunity to act and react in everyday situations. With these techniques, we support our actors in developing greater maturity, understanding of what others may be thinking or feeling, and communicating their own thoughts and feelings more effectively.
In drama, understanding concepts, making and interpreting inferences, taking another person's perspective, and formulating language, are all key components in working on a scene. Helping diffuse the fear of stigma or judgement from peers, Acting Antics programs are particularly well suited for youngsters, teens, and adults who are reluctant to participate in other programs that imply participants have social disabilities. Participants in theatre and drama can be perceived as cool, providing a gateway to acceptance into peer and social groups.
